Meeting Minutes (2007)
Minutes of meeting September 7th 2007 Present: English, Bilbo, JB, Gilbert, The Don, Snuffy the Great, Hendricks, Buffy, Worc Minutes of the last meeting: At the last meeting a quorum had not been present to vote upon the acceptance of new member, Worc. As there was another new member present in the form of Nyulacska the rabbit English suggested that both members be welcomed to the council. Worc will offer spiritual advice to the council and attempt to assist in providing guidance to the chaotic servants. Item 1 Snuffy raised the issue of honey supplies for the winter. He was concerned that with a huge increase in the cat population at his servants house all the money would be going to buy cat food. Several solutions were discussed. JB said that "If servants want to feed the cats, we'll send in Jimmy with his bats, He'll use his art to make them see, that honey's first for our Snuffee. Heh Heh" English suggested a letter be sent to the servants pointing out that charter rights must be respected. Hendricks asked if he could vote on something as he liked waving his hands in the air. Everyone agreed a gentle reminder in writing should be the first course of action and the vote was carried unanimousely. Item 2 Gilbert asked whether there was to be a Xmas party this year. Everyone was very enthusiastic about this. Gilbert said that the servants should be told to set up a time in the near future as he had noticed that their brains seemed to get numb as the weather grew colder and all their functions slowed down. English offered the observation that it might be difficult to spot a lowering of function in his servants. To make his point he gestured to the next room where the servants were playing a game to determine who are the smartest, men or women. Judging by the score it looked like being a very long night. Bilbo said he would speak to his servants about a party if Snuffy would take the matter up with his servants. They will report back at the next meeting. Item 3 JB had spotted a full wine glass and drunk it in one gulp and was beginning to do a dance on the coffee table. The Don suggested a cup of strong coffee might be in order. The servants had been cooking curry earlier so the group decided to cut the meeting short and slip into the kitchen while the servants gamed in the next room, and have a feast. JB had to be carried by Gilbert and The Don as his feet were getting mixed up with each other and he was giggling a lot. Next meeting in December. Date to be determined. Respectfully submitted Bilbo (secretary to the council) Minutes of meeting August 28, 2007 Present: English, JB, Worc Absent: Everyone else Item 1: English introduced Worc who will be the spiritual advisor to the council. Worc arrived in Nova Scotia in August and while visiting Mastadon Ridge in Stewiacke met up with JB who was out for a stroll. When JB informed Worc of the recent troubles relating to servants 'Leaving bears behind' Worc felt the need to reach out to the council members. Worc, as a crow, is the first non-bear to hold a position with the council (depending upon what you think of Jimmy The Rabbit, and we try not to think about him too much) English explained that he will not have voting rights, as only bears can vote. Worc, JB explained, had become spiritually inclined following an accident that weakened one of his wings. During his rehabilitation, when he had been coming into land, he had aquired the habbit of praying, which according to him, had helped him make safe landings by focusing his attention on the meaning of flight. To this day he attributes his safe landings to coming in on one wing and a prayer. Worc's position as spiritual advisor will need to be ratified at a full council meeting in the fall as there were insufficient members to make a quorum. English closed the meeting and he and JB had double helpings of honey, while Worc ate a juicy worm. English did ask Worc to leave the room while he was eating as the idea of eating worms, even if they were covered in honey, was quite nauseating to bears. Minutes submitted by English Present: Snuffy the Great, Vincent, Hendricks, Buffy Absent: The Don, English bear, JB, Bilbo, Gilbert Item 1: Minutes of last meeting Snuffy opened the meeting and made note of the fact that minutes of the last meeting were not available because Bilbo was not present. The Don called to apologise for the absence of the other committee members who were sitting on the front deck of their house, left behind by his incompetant servants. Item 2: New business The main item was to welcome Vincent to Canada and install him on The Cuddly Council as Bear in Charge of European Affairs. The vote to accept Vincent as a fully fledged member was unanimous, 8 votes for and 0 against. Hendricks voted five times because it was his first meeting and he liked waving his hands in the air. Everyone then discussed their new clothing which had been provided by Snuffy's female servant. It was remarked upon how she had done a good job, but that the clothes looked good mostly because of the grace and poise of the wearers. As it was proving difficult to continue the meeting as the servants were shouting loudly and kicking a small sack around the kitchen, Snuffy felt it appropriate to end the meeting and they retired to the office for tea and honey. Submitted (in the absence of Bilbo) by Buffy In attendence: English, Bilbo, The Don, Snuffy, JB Absent:Gilbert (Napping) Item 1: Minutes of the January 2007 meeting were not read as Bilbo was in hibernation and English refused to keep a record as he felt he was far too important to be doing Bilbo's job. Item 2: The Bears Charter. The initial draft of the charter was seen to be a great success by all present. Snuffy had been asked to bring feedback from other bears living in his house. He regretfully declined to do this as he didn't really like them that much. Plus, his chaotic servants had been so out of control this Spring, most of his time had been taken up keeping them in order. He did bring to the group's attention a series of photographs he had taken in Germany while attending a fashion show there, and which were posted on the Bears Chronicles blog. English felt the charter needed some expansion, pointing out that health care for bears had not been addressed. JB commented that "Poor health in bears relates to money, So raise some cash and buy the honey" Heh Heh. The Don said that he knew how to get some money, but would rather not give details. English proposed he go ahead and raise some, as long as it didn't involve baseball bats and bruised shins. Bilbo proposed a motion that these minutes be posted on the web site and feedback from other bears elicited about other items to be included in the charter. This motion was to be seconded by Snuffy, but he had fallen asleep. Everyone one said it was a good idea anyway. As the meeting had lasted about five minutes and everyone was tired, English closed the meeting and the council members shared some tea and honey before retiring for an afternoon nap. |
